Have your say: Help shape the future of the Zenadth Kes Creative Arts Industry

First Nations artists, businesses, and creative practitioners in the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) are invited to take part in a landmark survey to help the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) measure the economic value of the region’s Creative Arts Industry.

The survey closes on 20 April 2025 and the collected data will inform how the TSRA can continue to ensure arts businesses – including sole traders and artisans – receive better funding, stronger support programs, and greater national and international opportunities.

TSRA Chairperson George Nona said the survey would help collect much-needed data to identify development needs, key challenges and ongoing business support for creative artists and artworkers.

“Art is a viable industry for Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal peoples to explore, and the TSRA has and will continue help creative practitioners develop sustainable businesses,” Mr Nona said.

“TSRA’s Culture Arts & Heritage (CAH) and Economic Development (ED) programs have launched a joint research project calling for all artists and creative practitioners to share their experiences and business progress.

“This insight will guide TSRA in restructuring support packages for the region’s creative arts businesses,” he said.

If you work in the arts or sell your art in any capacity, this survey needs your voice.

This includes First Nations people who are:

  • Visual artists, painters, sculptors, printmakers
  • Performing artists, musicians, dancers, theatre practitioners
  • Writers, poets, filmmakers, designers
  • Craftspeople, fashion designers, digital media artists
  • Working in an arts centre, radio station or arts business
  • Any aspiring or existing Zenadth Kes creative professionals, looking to grow in their career.

The survey is quick and easy to complete online at www.tsra.gov.au or in person at Gab Titui Cultural Centre, NPA Arts Centre, Moa Arts, Erub Arts and Badu Art Centre. Participants can also go into the draw to win one of 10 $50 CEQ Vouchers.

The survey is open from Monday, 17 March to Sunday, 20 April 2025.
